The Gospel Bracelet

One of the witnessing tools we use a lot on our Missions is the Gospel Bracelet.  This color coded bracelet is especially effective for helping children understand the gospel.  Before each Vacation Bible School the coaches (coaches are the missionaries in training) would spend hours assembling hundreds of bracelets.

The Gospel Bracelet consists of five beads on a leather band secured between two knots.

The coaches would each get into a small groups of about five children.  At this point each child would be given a gospel bracelet and the coach would explain the meaning...

Gospel Bracelet
Yellow
The Frist colored bead is yellow.  What does yellow symbolize?  Heaven.  Heaven is a wonderful place much better than we can possibly imagine.  We all want to go to heaven.

Black
But, we have one problem.  That is we have sin in our lives.  This black bead represents our sin.  The Bible says that all of us have sin.  Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  God does not allow any sin in heaven.  So how can we get into heaven?  We can't.  God says the punishment of sin is death.  Death is eternal seperation from God in hell.

Red
God sent his Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross in our place so that we don't have to!  All we have to do is trust in Jesus and accept what He did on the cross as replacement for the punishment of sin.  This red bead symbolizes Christ's blood.  When we accept His free gift of salvation God washes us with his blood.

White
Once Jesus washes us with His blood we are pure.  We are no longer black with sin, but we are clean like the white bead.  Because God took the place of our sin, when we die, God can let us into heaven because our sin is placed upon Jesus.

Green
After we believe Christ we don't just want to sit around.  We want to grow so that we can become closer to God.  This green symbolizes growth much like the green grass grows.  We can grow by reading the Bible, praying to God, and going to church.

Christian and Libby show off their gospel bracelets

After asking if anyone wanted to believe Christ usually one or two would.  The Coach would call another MITer to watch his group while he took the child aside and went over the gospel bracelet to make sure the child understood the message of salvation.  Then if he was ready the child would pray to believe and accept Christ!
